Why the need for a bond issue?

  • Always good to have a capital improvement plan

  • MPS has developed a long-range capital improvement plan to address current facilities and future needs

  • Old outdated buildings - Phase 1 will address WRMS originally built in 1947

  • Compliance (Fire Code, ADA, Building, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.) issues at WRMS

  • Given timeline (36 months) to bring WRMS up to code

  • $8.7M price tag to address issues at WRMS with no new additions, no new classrooms, no safe rooms/storm shelters, etc.

  • MPS has previously purchased buses with general fund monies, which takes away from the classroom
